On Thursday, the 29th of August 1985, the Rt. Rev. Joseph Abiodun Adetiloye, then 55-year old Bishop of Ekiti arrived Lagos on translation as the sixth Bishop of Ekiti arrived Lagos Diocese of the church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). Though the Bishop was unable to enter his court because of a series of court injunctions, he settled in a hotel room and determined to thank God, at Christmas, with a church of the Nativity.
